Seminar

In addition to capacity building trainings, SEHD regularly organizes seminars, roundtable conferences, film festivals, Adivasi cultural festivals, photography exhibitions, study tours, and other public events. These provide opportunities in bringing peoples representing communities, civil society, government agencies, professionals, youths, students and academes together to address the issues of community and national interests. Since 1994, SEHD has organized 93 (till 2010) such events participated in directly by approximately 120,000 people representing most of the ethnic communities of Bangladesh, a big number of civil society organizations, universities, community based organizations, different informal and non-institutionalized groups and individuals.

SEHD organized seminars and roundtable conference have resulted in a number of books, monographs and reports. It is through the SEHD seminars that many fresh ideas, information and insights about critical human rights, environmental, and cultural issues have been floated in Bangladesh. Issues and concerns of national interest that have been strongly voiced through the SEHD seminar include forest, forest people, forest culture, plantation, invasion of exotic species, devastating effects of aid and loans on Bangladesh’s environment, Adivasi questions in Bangladesh, captive situation of the indentured tea workers and other excluded groups.

In addition to seminars, SEHD organizes cultural events, programs for school children and university students, screening of its documentary films, launching of its books, etc.
