Training

The training of the journalists, members of indigenous communities; trade union actors in the tea industry; environment, development and human rights actors; youths; sex workers; etc., in reporting, action-oriented research and documentation is a key activity of SEHD. Through training and public events SEHD shares skills, information, knowledge, ideas, analyses, and opens up new frontiers to different groups of people at different levels. From 1994 to 2010 SEHD has provided training to more than 900 journalists from more than 120 newspapers/magazines/channels (radio/television) and about 700 individuals representing different ethnic communities, civil society organizations and different other organizations of Bangladesh and activists. In total, SEHD has organized 70 training/workshops during this period.

Considering the local needs and interests, SEHD trainings are focused on issues concerning forest and environment, ethnicity, foreign investments, elections, human rights concerns, exclusion, etc. SEHD’s own reports, books and documentary films are major resource materials not only for its own trainings; these are also used by others.

The trainers include university professors, professional researchers, senior journalists, government officials, experienced activists, writers, community leaders, civil servants, and SEHD officials.
